Your puzzle rating, a streak, and your skills

Ten puzzles in, you get a puzzle rating of your own. There's a day streak with a rest day built in, and a pentagon that shows which kind of puzzle you're best at. Only you see any of it.

The short version

  • A puzzle rating after ten first tries, with a chart of how it's going
  • Five skills on a pentagon: openings, tactics, checkmates, endgames and calculation
  • A day streak with one rest day a week, so a busy Wednesday costs nothing
  • Streak badges, from a week running to a year running, with Learn XP that never goes away
  • Only you see it: not your profile, not your Club card, not the club TV

You’ve been asking how you’re doing, and the puzzles have known all along: they’ve kept a number to pick puzzles at the right difficulty since day one. Now you can see it. Ten puzzles in, your puzzle rating appears on the puzzles page, with a chart of it day by day from then on. Until then it’s tally marks, the way your club rating starts. Only first tries count, so a puzzle you’ve seen before can’t flatter you.

It’s a puzzle rating, not your club rating. That one still comes only from real games across a real board, and the two never mix.

Which kind of puzzle is yours

Next to your Learn level there’s a pentagon with five corners: openings, tactics, checkmates, endgames and calculation. Each one is a puzzle rating of its own, moved by the puzzles that count towards it. It says where you’re strongest and where there’s room to grow. A corner that’s still settling is drawn open until you’ve tried five puzzles that count towards it, and wears a “?” for a while after.

A streak that lets you have a life

Any puzzle, or any run in the opening trainer, counts for the day. Miss a day and the week’s rest day covers it by itself. Streaks of 7, 30, 100 and 365 days earn Learn XP and a badge, once each, and they’re yours to keep: a new streak never takes them back. No flames were harmed.

Still yours alone

Your puzzle rating, your skills and your streak are on your puzzles page and nowhere else: not on your profile, your Club card or the club TV, and never next to anyone else’s. Signed in, your rating and skills are in Download my data. “What’s kept”, on the puzzles page, lists every bit of it.
