Castle Gambit is for grown-ups.
It’s for people 18 and over. Here’s what that means if there’s a young chess player in your house, and where they can still read along.

Castle Gambit is a companion for chess club nights: it pairs players, keeps a friendly rating for casual games, and shows the evening’s boards on a TV in the room. It’s for adults.
- You need to be 18 or over to use it: to play as a guest, save an account, join a Castle (a chess club) or accept a gambit.
- Everyone answers the same neutral question first: a birth month and year. Anyone under 18 is turned away kindly and pointed to our guides. We don’t keep their answer, only a note on that phone for a day.
- Organizers may add only adults to their roster (it’s for players without a phone): they vouch that everyone on it is 18 or over, and it’s in our terms.
- There are no direct messages, no chat and no comments.
If your child plays chess
Our guides are free for everyone, with no account: what happens at a club night, the etiquette, clocks, notation and how ratings work. They’re a good read before a first tournament.
For games, look for a junior section at a local chess club, a school or library chess club, or scholastic events; your state chess association can point you to one. Those run on their own, without Castle Gambit.
If your child signed up anyway
Tell us at castlegambit.support@avevue.com with the name or handle they used, and we’ll delete the account. As with any deleted account, the people they played keep those games, under a name only. A person reads every message.
If an organizer put them on a club’s roster, ask the organizer or write to us, and we’ll take the name off. Games they already played stay for their opponents, without the name.
