The short version
- 5,000 puzzles from real games, free, with no account needed
- Easy to Fiendish, pitched at the right difficulty for whoever’s solving
- Twenty-six collections, each with a badge, and a club-night warm-up for members
- A puzzle rating only you see, and a day streak with a day off built in
Puzzles have been under Learn since the start of October, sitting in quietly, the way a new face watches a few games before asking for one. They’ve settled in, so up they go on the noticeboard: 5,000 positions from real games, free, and no account needed.
Bring a friend
Know someone who’d rather solve than scroll? Send them to castlegambit.com/puzzles. The puzzles find their level as they go, a little harder as they solve and a little easier when one gets away, so your club’s newest member and its strongest player both get a fair fight. Each one says how hard it is, from Easy to Fiendish.
Where they come from
Every puzzle is a moment from a real game, the kind you’d find yourself in on a Tuesday night. We picked the 5,000 that suit club players, and gathered some into twenty-six collections, from forks and pins to rook endings, with a badge for finishing each.
Yours alone
Ten first tries in, you get a puzzle rating of your own, kept apart from your club rating and seen by nobody but you. There’s a day streak too, with one rest day a week, so a busy Wednesday costs nothing. Signed out, your puzzles stay in this browser; signed in, they’re saved to your account. “What’s kept”, on the puzzles page, lists every bit of it.
