Drawn knockout? Switch colours and go again.

A knockout's drawn match can now play on: colours switch for a 5-minute game, then 3-minute games until someone wins. And your club's own house rules can be the default everything starts on.

The short version

  • A new tie rule for knockouts: switch colours at 5 minutes, then 3, until someone wins
  • Knockout tournament is first in the presets, and plays that way out of the box
  • Star your club's house rules: new events and tournaments start on them
  • New house rules starts a set from scratch, so it's yours from the first line

A drawn knockout game used to go straight to Armageddon, or to two blitz games and then Armageddon. Plenty of clubs settle it more simply at the board: swap colours, play faster, and keep going until somebody wins.

Now that’s a rule you can pick. In your house rules, under A drawn match, choose Switch colours: 5 minutes, then 3. A draw sends the pair straight into a 5-minute game with the colours switched. Draw that one too and they play 3-minute games, switching each time, until one of them wins. The TD console starts each game with the right clock.

Knockout tournament, first

The Knockout night preset is now called Knockout tournament, sits at the top of the list, and uses the new tie rule. House rules you already saved from it keep their own name and rule.

Your club’s rules, by default

Every preset was always just a starting point: make it yours and change anything, its name included. Now there’s New house rules to start from scratch too. Once your club has a set it plays most, tap its star. It becomes the club default: listed first, the rules New event starts on, and the first choice on New tournament.
