Solve one, watch the number climb

On a phone, your puzzle rating and Prep level now sit at the bottom of the screen and roll up the moment you solve one. The board sits higher, the modes are one menu, and the board settings got tidier.

A café table close up: a hand moving a piece on a wooden board beside a chess clock and a mug of coffee.

The short version

  • Your puzzle rating, Prep level and streak at the bottom, rolling on as you solve
  • Next puzzle right there, the moment you’re done
  • One menu for the Climb, Today’s puzzle, Scramble, Practice and Standings, Settings at the bottom
  • The board two rows higher on a phone, Hint beside “White to play”
  • The whole puzzle on one phone screen, and a board that stays put
  • Board settings: colors first, the small print behind an ⓘ

You shouldn’t have to scroll to find out how that went. On a phone the whole puzzle now fits on one screen, and the board stays exactly where it is from your first move to the next puzzle. Your puzzle rating, your Prep level and your streak sit in the bar at the bottom, with a gold line along its top for how far you are through the level. Get one right and the number rolls up, the gain slams down beside it like a rubber stamp, the XP drops in over your level and the line fills. With Sound on in Settings, you hear it land. Next puzzle is right there, in the same spot. Ten puzzles in, your rating shows up there first; before then it counts down.

The page got shorter on top, too. The header now says Puzzles and holds the menu (Practice ▾, or wherever you are), with every way to play and Settings at the bottom. Hint sits small beside “White to play”, and the line under it carries the news: the hint in words, a nudge after a slip, and “Solved.” when you get there.

Under the board come Picked for you and the collections. And on a touchscreen, “Type a move” steps aside: it’s a keyboard’s tool. Want it anyway? It’s in Settings.

Settings itself got shorter: colors come first, then pieces, and the small print about what’s kept where sits behind an ⓘ instead of taking up half a phone.
