Every puzzle counts now

No more skipping a puzzle you haven't tried. Stuck? Take a hint, then another, then see the answer, and the next one comes a little easier.

Club night among the library shelves: a table tent with a 2 between two boards, a chess clock and a blue pen on a scoresheet.

The short version

  • No Next until you've had a go
  • Stuck: Hint, Another hint, then Show the solution
  • Missed ones come back for another look
  • Reloading brings back the same puzzle

Your puzzle rating is meant to say how you really play, so the puzzles you get are the right size. That only works if every puzzle counts. So while you’re on a puzzle you haven’t tried before, there’s no Next. Make a move, or take a Hint, then Another hint, then Show the solution. Seeing the answer counts as a miss, the next puzzle comes a little easier, and the one you missed comes back for another look later.

Reloading the page won’t swap it either: the same puzzle comes back until you’ve had your go. Puzzles you’ve tried before can still be passed, and so can the club-night warm-up’s five. Want easier ones on purpose? Choose what to practice has the difficulty right there.
