A new mark on the door

Castle Gambit has a new logo: a castle tower drawn in one line, with a door in it. You'll see it on your home screen, in the corner of every page, and soon on a hat.

The far tables of a pub’s back room under brass lamps: games in progress, a pint and a cola beside the boards.

The short version

  • Three battlements for the castle, an open door for the club you walk into
  • Its base leans at the angle of a knight's move, because we couldn't help ourselves
  • The new icon shows up on your home screen the next time the app updates
  • The yellow rook isn't gone: it's still your coach in the opening trainer
  • Clubs can put it on their own site and posters: the brand kit has the files and a website badge

Our old mark was a rook on a yellow card. It did its job, but a rook is every chess app’s logo, and we’re not really about the piece. We’re about the room: a real club, in a real town, with a door you walk through on a Tuesday night.

So the new mark is a castle tower drawn in one continuous line, the way a pen never leaves the scoresheet. Three battlements on top, an arched door in the middle, and a base that runs at the slope of a knight’s move, so the whole tower looks like it’s stepping across the board.

Where you’ll see it

In the corner of every page, on your Club card, on the club TV and table tents, and on your home screen once the app updates. If you added Castle Gambit to your home screen from the browser, it updates the next time your phone refreshes the icon, which can take a day or so.

For clubs: the brand kit

If your club runs its nights on Castle Gambit and you’d like to say so, the brand kit has the logo for your website, posters and the door, a “Find us on Castle Gambit” badge that links to your club’s page, the colours, and files ready for an embroiderer. Ask us before putting it on anything you sell.

The yellow rook isn’t retired. It’s still the coach in the opening trainer, and frankly it has earned the quieter job.
