Club night ·

Sign up in a tap. Sit down in two.

Scan the code, tap Continue with Google, and you’re in tonight’s lobby. Your games and your rating come with you to the next club night, from the very first one.

The short version

  • Scan the code, continue with Google (or your email and a code), and you’re in
  • Every game counts toward you from the first, and follows you to next week
  • No forms, no quiz: email sign-ups give a name, Google sign-ups not even that
  • A handle picked for you; change anything in Settings
  • Still for adults, 18 and over, and we still never ask your birthday

Club night is for chess, not paperwork. So we took a long look at everything between the door and Board 4, and threw most of it out.

Scan, tap, sit down

  1. Scan the code on the club's poster or TV. Still nothing to download.

  2. Continue with Google. Or type your email and the six-digit code we send you. That's the whole sign-up.

  3. Tap Find me a game. You land in tonight's lobby, and the big button is right there.

Every game counts, from the first one

Until now, your first night could be played as a guest, which was friendly right up until the next Tuesday, when the phone in your pocket had forgotten who you were. Now every game you play counts toward you from the very first, and your games, your rating and your Club card are waiting at the next club night, on any phone you sign in on.

Already played as a guest? Carry on: nothing changes for you tonight, and you can still save your games to an account whenever you like.

No forms, no quiz

Sign up with your email and we ask one thing: what should we call you? Sign up with Google and we don’t ask anything at all: you start as your first name and last initial, which is plenty at the board. We pick a handle from your name so your page has an address, and everything else (your name, your handle, who sees your rating) waits in Settings for whenever you feel like it. Nobody sees a rating before your first five rated games, and never in the lobby or on the TV.

Still for grown-ups

Castle Gambit is still for adults, 18 and over. Instead of asking your birthday, the sign-up screen says so in one line, and tapping Continue is you saying yes. We note that you did, and which version of our Terms you agreed to, and that’s it. What we keep.
