What’s new

For organizers ·

Set up your club from a desk. It still goes on the map.

Type your Castle’s address, pick it from the list, and it’s on the map: no more standing in the room with your phone to be found in Near you. Clubs that move around pick just their town.

A quiet club hall between rounds: numbered boards set up on long tables, flowers on the nearest one.

The short version

  • Start typing the address and pick your room from the matches: that puts it on the map
  • We move around? Pick your town instead, and the pin covers the town, never a table
  • Already pinned it from the room? That pin stays until you pick a new place
  • Not on the map yet? Your Castle’s card under Organizer tools says so, with a link to fix it

Until today a Castle got onto the map one way: an organizer stood in the room and tapped “I’m there now”. Which is lovely if you set the club up on a Tuesday night between rounds, and no help at all if you set it up at your kitchen table, which is where most clubs are actually started. Those Castles had a page, nights and a calendar, and were invisible to anyone looking for a club near them.

Now the address box helps. Start typing, and matching places show up under it. Pick yours and the Castle is on the map. Keep typing without picking and it works as before: the words are saved, there’s no pin, and the form says plainly that picking a match is what puts you on the map.

A club with no fixed room

If you picked We move around, the box looks for towns only. Pick yours, and the pin covers the town, a spot a few miles across: close enough to be found, nowhere near anyone’s table or sofa.

Who sees the pin

Signed-in members find your Castle in Near you, with the pin as precise as it’s always been: exact beside a street address, otherwise within about half a mile. Signed out, people still see your page and your address, but not the pin, and search engines get no coordinates. It’s the same rule as a gambit’s picked address. The matches come from OpenStreetMap, so your page credits them.

Already on the map?

A pin you set in the room stays put when you edit the address. It only moves if you pick a new place on purpose. And if your Castle isn’t on the map yet, its card under Organizer tools says so, with Put it on the map right there. One pick, then save. Your club, findable by people who were going to love it anyway.
