Getting around ·

Find a game, then Prep for it.

The top of the site now says what it’s for: Find a game, for a real night at a real club, and Prep, for getting ready for it. Prep counts down to your next night and puts today’s puzzle right on the page.

A bright community hall with tall windows and rows of tables set with chess boards, clocks and numbered table tents, a few players at the far end.

The short version

  • Four places at the top: Find a game, Prep, For organizers (My Castles once you’re signed in) and About
  • Find a game: Castles, Gambits and Got a code?, all in one list
  • Prep: Today’s puzzle, the Climb, Scramble, Practice, the opening trainer and the guides, one click from any page
  • The Prep page names your next night, an accepted gambit, a tournament you’ve entered or your home Castle’s next night, and counts down to it
  • Today’s puzzle plays right on the Prep page, beside your lines due and your next square on the Climb
  • Your Learn level is your Prep level now: same XP, same private number, new name

People come to Castle Gambit for one of two reasons: to go and play chess with real people, or to get a bit sharper before they do. So that’s what the top of the site says now. Find a game holds Castles, Gambits and Got a code?. Prep holds everything for getting ready. Running a club? For organizers is where Organize was, and once you’re signed in it’s your Castles, as before.

Prep counts down to your night

Prep starts with your next night out: a gambit you’ve accepted, a tournament you’ve entered, or your home Castle’s next club night, whichever comes first. The headline follows it. On a Saturday with a Tuesday club night ahead, it says Get ready for Tuesday. It’s a small thing, but it does make an opening drill feel less like homework and more like a plan.

Under it, today’s puzzle plays right on the page, no detour. Then your next square on the Climb, a quick Scramble, the opening lines you’re due, and the guides for everything a club night throws at you. Signed out, it’s the same page without the countdown: sign in and it learns your calendar.

One click from anywhere

Point at Prep at the top of any page and Today’s puzzle, the Climb, Scramble, Practice, the opening trainer and the guides are right there. Click the word itself and you’re on the Prep page. The old Learn address still works and brings you here.

Same level, new name

The level your puzzles and opening lines share is your Prep level now. Same XP, same rules, still private: nobody sees it but you. It never went down for a missed week, and it still won’t.
