A tournament on club night, your way

Running a quick tournament on the same evening as your club night? New tournament now asks whether casual games carry on alongside it, and the room does what you said, whoever opens the night.

A long row of tables set for a club night: wooden boards with their pieces on the starting squares, a chess clock and a blank table tent at each board, players seated down both sides.

The short version

  • New tournament asks “Casual games alongside your club night?” when the two overlap
  • Yes: regulars keep Find me a game while the tournament plays its rounds
  • No: tonight is just the tournament, and at a club that doesn’t check people in, scanning the code enters them
  • Tonight says which nights share the room and lets you switch casual games on or off mid-evening

Plenty of clubs run a quick knockout on club night. Until now, the evening quietly took its rules from whichever night someone opened first: open the tournament first and the regulars lost Find me a game; open the club night first and scanning the code stopped entering people in the tournament. Chess has enough move-order traps already.

One question, asked once

When a new tournament overlaps one of your club nights, New tournament asks Casual games alongside your club night? Say yes and the regulars keep pairing up on the club night’s own rules while the tournament plays its rounds. Say no and tonight is just the tournament. It remembers your answer for next time. Made during the club night itself, it now starts on tonight, not next week.

Tonight tells you what the room is doing

On Tonight, beside the code, Tonight’s room names the nights sharing the room and whether casual games are on, and why. Changed your mind at half past seven? Tick or untick Casual games tonight. Anyone waiting goes back to idle, and games already on a board finish.
