Week 1 · Lesson 1 of 20 · About 15 minutes

The board

Sixty-four squares, every one with a name, and where all 32 pieces start. You'll be able to: set up the board and name any square.

Arrow keys move between squares; up is towards your opponent. Enter or Space picks a piece up and puts it down. Escape puts it back.

Step 1 of 6

A chess board has 64 squares, light and dark, eight by eight. Turn it so each player has a light square in their bottom right-hand corner.

Tap the light square in White's bottom right-hand corner.
