Week 2 · Lesson 8 of 20 · About 15 minutes

Castling and en passant

The two odd moves: one tucks your king away, the other catches a pawn that tried to sneak past. You'll be able to: know when you can castle, and take en passant.

Arrow keys move between squares; up is towards your opponent. Enter or Space picks a piece up and puts it down. Escape puts it back.

Step 1 of 6

Castling moves two pieces at once: the king steps two squares toward a rook, and the rook hops over to the king's other side. It tucks the king away safely.

Castle: move the king two squares toward the rook.
