Find a club near you. Even before you sign up.

Clubs that put themselves on the map by picking their address now show up in Near you for everyone, signed in or not. And organizers see players and members side by side.

A library community room set up for club night: wooden boards on long tables, numbered table tents, a few players at the boards.

The short version

  • Clubs set up from a desk now show in Near you for everyone, not just signed-in players
  • Their pin is exactly as precise as one set in the room: no more, no less
  • Organizers see “38 players · 12 members”, and adding a member never moves the players count
  • The line about Keep under Follow shows only on clubs where it’s true

A couple of days ago we let organizers put their Castle on the map by picking its address, instead of standing in the room with a phone. There was a catch: those pins only showed to people who’d already signed in. Which is a bit like putting up a sign for your club that only members can read.

So now they show for everyone. If you’re looking for a chess club near you, signed in or not, the clubs that picked their address are in Near you alongside the ones pinned from the room. The pin is exactly as precise as any other: right on the spot when the address has a house number and a street, otherwise somewhere within about half a mile, and a few miles across for a club that moves around. The map data comes from OpenStreetMap, so the club’s page credits them.

For organizers

Your Members screen, Insights and Players page now say the same thing the same way: “38 players · 12 members”. Players are everyone who follows your Castle, members included if they follow. Add someone as a member, or take them off the list, and the players count doesn’t budge, instead of mysteriously dropping by one. So it never gives away who followed. Below five players you still see “fewer than 5”, never the number.

And the line under Follow that says clubs on Keep can see a follower’s name now shows only on clubs where that’s true. Everywhere else, Follow just follows.
